In support of the Chapel Hill 2020’s goal to Create a Place for Everyone, the Town Council has passed a preliminary resolution to put an affordable housing bond referendum on the ballot in November. 

On February 23rd, the Orange County Affordable Housing Coalition hosted a summit to bring together elected officials, government staff, community organizations, and the public to have a conversation about affordable housing development in the county.

As part of the Town of Chapel Hill’s efforts to increase access to housing for all residents, the Town has set annual targets for affordable housing preservation and development. This year the Town has not only met, but surpassed its’ development target of 80 subsidized housing units with over 90 new affordable units developed in this fiscal year alone, in addition to the completion of 8 preservation projects. This number brings the Town to over 1,000 units of subsidized affordable housing overall.
